This is the screen I've gotten for 4 days now when trying to post to LJ. This entry subsequently coming to you from Dreamwidth.

The good news is that I got some sleep last night, finally, after 2 nights of frustrating efforts which left me utterly debilitated. The further good news is that with any luck, today we are buying an AC unit. This is just in time for the next 6 days of projected 90+ heat.

Unrelated to the heat, but thematically similar, my office building caught fire a couple of days ago. No one was hurt, and the fire fighters got the blaze put out pretty quickly. Our floor and our office did not sustain any damage, although others were not so lucky. The crazy part was that because the fire alarm sounds so frequently (about once a month, I'd say), we have stopped taking it seriously. So on the way out Yen and I stopped in the restroom, were not in any big hurry at all to make our way outside. When we got outside, we were met by stern fire fighters, ushering us away from the building, and our colleagues, who were grouped with everyone else and pointing at the flames and smoke shooting out of the top of the building.

We went home early, obviously. This is the second law office I've worked in which has had a fire. The first one burned to the ground. This, luckily, was much more minor.

Today is the start of college football, which is cause for great joy and merriment! If only we ever got coverage of MY team. I am sad every year to not be there for the first game, but this too shall pass.

Happy start to the long weekend, everyone!
(P.s. I don't really know how DW works with comments, so just comment on LJ.)

Trying to migrate over here as much as possible; if I take your LJ account off my reading filter will I miss anything? :)

<shrugs> Cross-posting from here to LJ is easy and can be automatic if you like. LJ doesn't provide that, so it's a bit more fiddly, although there may be a client that offers cross-posting to multiple sites that use Brad's codebase...

Wow. That is one stretch of suck dere. And you didn't even mention the Red Flops. That was pretty awesome video of the fire aftermath you linked to on the Bookface the other day- they've taken it down, but what do they call the bigass fire truck they showed at the scene? It was something totally Port-outlandish.

We haven't had any LJ problems lately, and the status site isn't reporting anything. That screenshot may reflect some kind of broken cookie. Try logging out of LJ, then your browser, dump all your cookies and temp files, and start over.

(And DW comments should work the same.)

I didn't think about a cookie, but that's a great idea. It's been days now. Their "known issues" page says some users are reporting difficulty with the javascript on the post to journal page... that would be me... I'm going to try your idea and see if it works! Fingers crossed. In addition to posting from DW, I have figured out a work around, which is to type a word into the tiny little box, then "post it" and then go to my journal (which displays fine) and edit the post. That works, but it's just another step in the process.

Yes! The very same. There was some minor damage to our building, but the brunt of it was sustained by the 4th floor condo owners. They got it pretty badly. I never have heard a definitive reason the blaze broke out in the first place, but it was certainly nerve-wracking.

Yeah, when this happens with me it's a cookie issue, and clearing them restores things to normal.

Cool pics, although kind of scary!

Clearing the cookies and stuff didn't help, sadly. I guess I'll just keep rigging it. I opened a support claim with LJ, but I'm not holding my breath. And yeah, seeing all the firefighters in action was really really cool, especially when we realized we were all safe. :)

I was getting that error too. I had to switch over to Opera to post.

Oh my gosh @ that fire!
My former law firm had a fire the Friday before I started. The mail girl put a box of groceries on the stovetop in the kitchen, and some partner dude apparently ran in with a fire extinguisher all heroic-like and was overcome by smoke. Most of their damage was from the sprinkler system though...

Yeah, the sprinkler systems spray a flame retardant along with the water, and that stuff is YUCKY.

holy crap! that fire looks totally scary! I can't believe you stopped in the bathroom first. I bet the firefighters were very angry when they saw you.

Have you tried a different browser with LJ? Maybe try IE or Google Chrome & see if you have the same error screen.

I have not tried another browser. I'd like them to just fix the stupid script, and that would be awesome. Yes, the fire was a little scary. The firefighters were not angry, just moving everyone away as quickly as possible. No one takes them seriously; we have a fire alarm at least once a month and it has never been real until now!
